Meanwhile, commodities like gold and oil have gone way up - at least when denominated in dollars.  But if gold will buy roughly the same amount of oil as it did 10 years ago and vice versa, the only thing that changed is what the dollars will buy.  And when the value of the dollar is warped, so then is our sense of real value.
