The ability to own private property is the foundation for building wealth with real estate...or anything else for that matter.

But what is “ownership” without control?  And what happens when society’s needs and desires slam up against individual rights?

While most people agree an individual homeowner should probably be restricted from building a nuclear waste dump in their backyard in deference to the greater good of the community…should society be able to dictate how much rent landlords should be allowed to charge or who they rent to?

It’s a touchy subject and conflicts occur all the time.  That’s where the lawyers get involved.

So if you’re going to be a property owner, it’s a good idea to understand the basics of property rights.

In this episode we talk to a couple of lawyers who are involved in conflicts with government over issues of individual rights versus societal controls…some of which are over rights you might not even know exist.
